Happy Weekend to all BlogPaws members. Throughout the week, BlogPaws posts great content both on the blog and in the community. With the busy and multitasking lives we all lead, you might have missed some of our announcements, info, posts, and overall news of the week.
On weekends, we'll be recapping and reporting the best of BlogPaws and things you might have missed this week. Here we go:
We recently devoted an entire month to animal adoption, but canine and
feline aficionados must actively address the worldwide animal overpopulation on
a year-round basis.
The American Humane Association (AHA) reports that
“millions of pets across the country face euthanasia every year because there
are not enough people who will adopt them and give them caring homes”.
Wendy
Diamond, whom many BlogPaws Conference attendees will recall was our emcee for
the Nose-to-Nose Awards 2012, made headlines with her “DOGGUPY Union Square” campaign which took place in the heart of New York City on October 2nd.
Along
with Olympic fencer, Tim Morehouse, and over 50 dogs with their pet parents,
the group came together to call attention to the end of “inferior kibble that
they've been fed for too long.”
Saw this information online the other day and wanted to pass it along.
I spent four hours one day last week trying to clean motor oil off a patient whose owner had tried to use the slick substance to kill mange. It was a fundamentally bad idea - and not just because motor oil is probably more dangerous to dogs than it is to mange mites. Turns out the poor dog wasn't even infected with mange in the first place. Read the rest here.
Last week I shared a little video from PAL (Pets Add Life) and promised more. Here are two more - they will make you smile, maybe even laugh out loud.
The message is far more than one of humor, however. The message is aimed right at your heart - remember to encourage friends, family and even aquaintances that they should consider adoption when thinking of adding a new pet to the family.
When we moved to Colorado from NY (me and Tom and The Grumpy Old Lady), we knew we were going to adopt from a shelter, even that we were going to look for an 'adult' dog, not a puppy. Over time (we gave ourselves a year to get settled), we decided we needed two dogs. We knew we might be traveling a bit, for BlogPaws, and we did some research into the benefits of having two dogs - where they might keep each other company while we were away.
