Welcome back. Have you clarified your niche since my last post? I found that working through this process simply by writing it got me to thinking about better clarification. Now we’re moving into new territory—finding readers that are a good match for your renewed content.
With the recent announcement of a Pet Channel Partnership between Blogpaws and BlogHer, it should be no surprise that women are viewed as the primary readers of pet blogs. Statistics tell us that 2 of every 3 households own a dog. Further, half of these families have a second dog as well. The statistics vary for cats and other pets, but this is certainly a good start in doing the math. Women’s sites are a great place to locate other pet owners.
Perhaps giveaways are not on your menu. That’s fine. Social media linky lists at sites of interest have found me getting some surprise visitors from all sorts of pet loving moms and even grandmoms.
Now that I’ve garnered a few Twitter followers that write in the mommy blog realm, my Tweets and Facebook posts are being seen by more moms. Use of social media is helping me find those families that need help with their doggie dilemmas. That’s my niche or specialty, and I try to make it clear that what I do is help readers solve their ‘life with dog’ problems. From products to techniques and training to vet advice, our goal is to give our readers what they need to solve their daily doggie issues.
Looking back at the roles you had to choose from at my resource page entitled What is My Niche?, you may need to bark up an entirely different tree than I have. Your goal is to seek out sites and genres which will likely attract the readers you want to engage. This target group will vary widely for each of the roles we entertained. As you venture out to other areas in search of possible connections, comment pleasantly, participate in events, make new acquaintances on social networks, and watch your blog blossom.

Nice series, thus far. Not sure if I'm properly wending my way towards a niche, but I've got a much better idea of what I am not, which has to be worth a Milkbone or two :) Thanks for the effort you've put into this series.
