And, just as we don't recommend giving pets at other holidays, we don't recommend adopting a bunny just because it's Easter.
Check out this video on the Humane Society of the U.S. website about adopting a bunny. There is also great content on how to care for a bunny, in case you've already adopted one.
We do hope that you'll not only think carefully before adopting a bunny or other exotic animal, as well as considering the cost and care of adopting any pet, we hope you'll share this information with friends and family. Pets are living beings. They have feelings, they need medical care and lots of love. Be responsible, visit the shetler and talk to the folks there - they will steer you in the right direction on the idea of adoption.
Never adopt just because... your friend did, you like kittens, puppies, cuddly bunnies. Adopt because you want to share your home and lots of love with another creature; a creature that will depend on you for all that and more, today, tomorrow...and in over his or her entire lifetime.

It's so sad that people go out and buy pets purely on a whim or impulse. They don't realize how much effort and time it takes to raise these animals. They also don't realize the financial burden that these animals entail. People need to think clearly and thoroughly when deciding to get a pet.

Great message. I can't believe people would actually go out and get themselves a bunny just because it is Easter. What is harder to believe is that they would just get rid of it afterwards. I used to have several bunnies as pets when I was a kid. They are great and so cute. Possibly even a great way to teach your kids the responsibility of owning a pet with an animal that needs less maintenance than a dog.
