This is a great article and I'm glad you reposted it from Edie's site.

We usually rent a pet-friendly house at the beach each year and avoid some of the hassles (and expense) of finding a truly pet-friendly hotel.

The problem there? Some homeowners charge non-refundable pet cleaning fees even when you've brought your dog year after year and left the place spotless.

As a matter of fact, we usually leave places cleaner than we find them. I'd like to see policies that always refund a pet deposit if you leave the place spotless.

@Pamela - that just makes sense. Even at BlogPaws conferences, if there is a fee, it's refundable. Strange that they don't value your business enough to not even ask for a fee.

Edie

Belatedly -- thanks for sharing this on your site! I'm not opposed to *refundable* cleaning fees, but they should apply to humans too (as I say, who would be more likely to trash a hotel room -- two St. Bernards or Charlie Sheen.)?

In theory, renting a house -- as opposed to staying in a hotel -- should add the human element, i.e., I can't imagine not judging visitors on a case by case basis and encouraging the nonmessy ones to come back (says she who is currently renting out her guesthouse for short stays).
