I'd love to just keep chatting about BlogPaws and our pets and all the fun, and Be the Change, but meanwhile, all around us, life goes on.
One of the things we created BlogPaws for was to help bloggers get better at blogging. And, the truth is we could all use some help. Even those of us who have been blogging for years don't know it all. It's humanly impossible to "know it all."
Luckily, we brought in experts who - while they don't "know it all" either - they know more of it than you or I! And, if there is something about their topic that they don't know, they aren't afraid to say so - with a promise to go find the right answer.
That's what I love about conferences in general. Even when I'm a speaker, I learn a lot from the people around me - including attendees.
Well, one of our speakers was a star. Stephan Spencer, co-author of The Art of SEO: Mastering Search Engine Optimization, had everyone at the conference raving about his part in the SEO panel. I understand the entire panel was very informative, but it's clear that Stephan showed his worth when he did impromtu reviews of blogs for their SEO value.
Today, I discovered a truly inspiring and educational article Stephan did called, "36 SEO Myths That Won't Die But Need To". I can't help but share some of it here, and encourage all of you to hop over and read it for yourself.
The very first myth is one of the most powerful, IMHO. Stephan cautions that anyone who says the following is suspect: "Our SEO firm is endorsed/approved by Google." If you get an email like that, back away. Just step away. Do not click any of the links, do not click 'reply'. Just back away.
Another myth, "You should end your URLs in .html" pushes Stephan to ask, "When has that made a difference?" (I don't know...it never made a difference to me. I totally missed that one.)
My favorite, out of the 36, is this one, #22 - "SEO is a black art. And it's done, usually in a dark room by some rogue SEO consultant, without requiring the involvement of the client/rest of the company." As Stephan says, "Only in spy novels." LOL
I might have believed that one, in my early Internet days. I mean, some sites just get fabulous attention from Google, and some don't. It was always so mysterious! After many years of reading great content written by experts like Stephan, I learned some of the more successful ways to use SEO to build traffic. And, to this day, I continue to learn something new from people like Stephan, Ellen and Mary - by accepting that they know more about this stuff than I do. You can learn, too. Visit their blogs and our event sessions page where the presentations (all that we have, anyway) are online.
What do you need to know? How can we help you learn more about the topics that are important to you? Just ask...and we will do our best to deliver.
