Our Be the Change Challenge isn't just for big donations. Nor is the world-wide focus the only focus. We support our local shelters and know that you do, too.
Case in point, this weekend Tom and I, along with Chloe (my daughter), Miah (my granddaughter) and a friend, Stephanie who is the proud Mom to the ferret Snotface, and, of course, Twiggy the Greyhound, will be walking in the Furry Scurry Dumb Friends League fund raiser here in Denver. We found out about it via Bissell, a proud sponsor of BlogPaws, you may remember and supporter of pets with their Pack of Pet Lovers.
The Dumb Friends League is devoted to shelter pets - and I see on their site that they've just about raised half of the million dollars they had set as their goal. A pretty substantial amount, even at half, wouldn't you agree? To be able to involve pet parents and pet loving folks in this kind of fund raiser has got to be so inspiring and uplifting, I am very eager to participate.
Also, Tom and I get to meet more pet people who live here in Denver. We always knew that Denver was pet-friendly, and when we attend events like this, it confirms our decision to move to this part of the country.
Of course, a prime reason was Miah, the granddaughter - and her Mom, my daughter. Family trumps everything! Which means our beloved pets, too! Let's hear it for "Pets are People, too!"
Actually, they're better than people. They don't gossip about us. They don't hold grudges. They give unconditional love. They are always happy to see us (well, unless we travel a lot and leave them with sitters - really, Wabby is about fed up with our traveling!). And our pets always give back more than they get - because we are their world.
I suspect that Tom and I will be tempted to adopt this weekend. We are definitely considering it. Two dogs. No cats. Wabby is not fond of other cats. But, she "tolerates" dogs. So, stay tuned. There may be additions to the DiVita/Collins family this weekend! Yikes!
(if you visit the photo gallery, where I borrowed this pic, you'll see why I say Yikes! Who can resist these adorable pets?)
Meanwile, visit the Furry Scurry page. Help us reach the million dollar mark, if you're able. Enjoy the fabulous pics from last year.
I believe that we can raise millions and millions if we each, $5 at a time, give to shelters and rescues, as we support and promote Be the Change. Don't you?
Share your local fund raising efforts so we can support you, too.

The Furry Scurry is an awesome event! I did it a lot growing up here in Denver. Over the years we've had about 10 dogs from The Denver Dumb Friends League...what a great organization! I am hoping to be there on Saturday to walk it again with my dog (Uber, a 2-year-old German shepherd).
Denver is such a great city, and very dog-friendly! I wouldn't live anywhere else!
Have fun! I'll keep an eye out for Twiggy!
